Our mission at Wigan Live Festival is to champion great music, supporting new talents in Wigan and beyond. And this is the first step towards recognising and rewarding the great talent we feature on our fantastic stages each year. We’re proud to announce that this year we will be presenting a new special ”Wigan Live Festival Best Band” debut award. The bands and artists will be judged based on their performance on the night. The judges this year will be the festival organisers, with input from venues and audiences Throughout the festival we will be asking the audiences, the venues and ourselves…. “Who deserves the title and trophy of WLF Best Band 2017!?” We need your help! We recently released our brand new promo video for this year’s Wigan Live Festival (August 18th & 19th)! And we completely beat last year’s record – on facebook we got over 6000 views in just a day! now we’re heading up to 16,000! We have received some fantastic comments. We’re so chuffed with all the bands and artists from last year – it really shows how much you all brought to the fest. We’ve been releasing the confirmed bands and artists to play over the past few months, and we have some great local legends, as well as bands from further afield. There’ll be many different music genres, and each band has their own page with music playing directly on the site, so check them out and have a listen. So now we have almost 60 bands added to our amazing Line up page – and with less than 5o days to go! We are showcasing just 3 performers that will be playing at Wigan Live Festival 2016! Wigan Central at 2:30pm on 26th June Free entry! Alec Martin – 2:30pm Alec is one of the hardest working musicians in the north west. As well as being a founder member of Night Train (never missed a gig!), he is also responsible for The Buskers Ball of Bolton, England…one of the country’s original ‘open mike’ sessions. An accomplished singer/songwriter, as well as singing with Night Train and running The Buskers Ball, Alec can also be found doing solo gigs at various folk,blues and open mike sessions in the area, with a repertoire that not only includes his original material, but also covers by people ranging from Dylan to Howling Wolf. Wigan’s finest artists will be arriving at The Platform this Sunday 29th May. Wigan Centrals new room and big stage is opening its doors for the first time this Sunday. To celebrate its arrival, Wigan Live Festival are putting on some of Wigan’s finest artists from 7pm – 11pm. Artists have already been booked for this event however if you would like to play just bring your music or guitars and we will do our best to fit you in to what promises to be a marvelous music mashed merryment and celebration. We’re looking for a real variety of local music talent – there are really no bounds! And our panel listen to every single application (that’s a lot of listening time!). The deadline for Artist Applications this year is 2nd May 2016 – and we will be in contact with successful applicants no later than 24th May 2016. Then comes the exciting part, we’ll be releasing the full timetable and band profile listings on our website asap after that! The festival itself is 19th – 20th August across Wigan Town Centre – the town will be bursting with gigs and live music fans in over 9 venues. We’re looking for some new acoustic artists to play a number of gigs in Wigan over the Spring and Summer 2016. Music style isn’t limited, but we’re looking for solo / duos only – no full bands please. Please get in touch if you’d like to know more!
