Band Interview: Tokyo Taboo

Why did you pick your band name?

We love all things Japanese – Kawaii  fashion to anime cartoons. Tokyo is such a chaotic colourful city and we embody that craziness!

Who writes the songs, what are they about?

Dolly usually writes the lyrics and then we collaborate and come up with the rest.

What is your favourite song that you’ve produced?

Dolly: It really changes depending on the mood I’m in. Bubbilicious is a psychotic pop rock song that’s a lot of fun to perform live as it’s so high energy…..Then we have Drowning which is more meaningful for me written about a very tough time I went through.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever played and why?

We played an amazing show to launch our last record in Cargo (London) The room was completely packed and we were buzzing for days afterwards. We also played The Viper Room on Sunset Blvd in LA and that was really amazing due to the venues iconic history. Any show where the crowd are enjoying themselves goes down well with us!

If you could gig with any musician alive or dead who would you pick?

Freddy Mercury. Nuff said really.

How much time do you put into your music per week?

It’s a 24 / 7 kinda thing. We both work in music so that all feeds back into what we do.

Any big news this year we should know about?

We are releasing a new video that we shot in Death Valley (California) All our new music is pretty exciting!
